We live in Grecia, about 30 minutes from the airport, 45 minutes to San Jose and two hours from the beach in Jaco. Many ask why we chose Grecia and believe me, it was not just a dart thrown to the map. Grecia is large enough to have all the facilities, including a hospital, doctors, dentists and groceries, but even more important is that Grecia is known to be “the cleanest town in Central America.” Grecia is also a place of moderate daytime temperatures of about 75 degrees in the day and 65 degrees at night. We are central to everything; beaches east and west, and tropical jungles north and south and all things city-like in Grecia, San Jose, and Escazu. There has become a nice population of expats, but certainly not a density that makes us think we did not move. Yes, we think Grecia is a perfect mix of all things Costa Rica with all the amenities required by expats. It is where we could have an affordable retirement that we could never have had in the States.
